It’s not The Hills… THE CANYONS is a contemporary L.A. noir from director Paul Schrader, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20′s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence.
We gotta say this “CONTROVERSIAL MOVIE” looks intriguing in a watching-a-car-crash kinda way. Is there anyway this will be good? Let’s just hope it’s has a raunchy B-Movie, midnight cult movie vibe. That would be good enough.
As with anything LiLo does this could be one of her last films, so there’s always that too. We’ve heard good things about her acting on that Dick & Liz tv pic along with the usual she’s-outta-control-crazy stuff too. Hey, it’s just LiLo being LiLo. We feel no shame or irony at calling her LiLo either, she is still the star of “Mean Girls” and “Love Bug” here in our minds at Smokin Monkey. What if “The Canyons” is her turning point? What if we will all look back years later at this period of LiLo’s career and refer to it as her Lost Weekend years?
Probably not, but we can dream right?
